Mission of Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation Directorate (AAID)

To promote aviation safety through the conduct of independent and objective investigations into aviation accident and incident that is in line with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13.

The AAID is responsible for the investigation of civil aviation accidents and serious incidents in Rwanda

Additionally the AAID bears responsibilities:

• in case of the investigation of aviation accidents and serious incidents with Rwanda registered civil aircraft anywhere in the world,
• and in cases involving aviation safety occurrences where Rwanda has a special interest.

The AAID will:

1. Gather, record and analyze all the available information on the accident and incidents.
2. Determine the causes and/or validity of the contributing factors
3. Identify the possible safety issues
4. Draw up the safety recommendations to address circumstances and causes to improve aviation safety
5. Complete the investigation reports
